Friends of The Daily Texan raises funds for student scholarship endowment

Friends of The Daily Texan Inc. has provided $25,000 in funds to start a scholarship fund for Daily Texan staffers and is now beginning a campaign to raise additional funds to further grow the endowment.

During its annual awards dinner Nov. 3, the Friends group announced a $25,000 grant to Moody College of Communication to establish an annual $1,500 scholarship for a deserving student journalist who works on The Texan.

The first scholarship grant will be awarded in spring 2018 to a deserving staffer, chosen by a selection committee that will include representatives from Moody College of Communication, The Daily Texan, Texas Student Media and Friends of The Daily Texan.

The Friends of The Daily Texan group, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, also announced its intent to further extend the award by raising the amount of the endowment to support a more robust scholarship and/or adding additional scholarships to deserving Texan staffers.

To donate to the endowment, visit our Make a Donation page, and mark in comments box “Texan scholarship” and we’ll make sure it is applied to the Texan student scholarship fund.
