Current students, alums/mentors to confer

As part of a weekend celebrating The Daily Texan — past, present and future — the Friends of The Daily Texan will host a day of mentorship and networking in The Daily Texan’s basement offices on Friday, Nov. 8.

Current Texan staffers and other interested UT students are welcome to sign up for one-on-one meetings with 17 distinguished alumni.

Alumni mentors hail from five decades of Daily Texans,  and have gone on to industry-leading positions in print, online and broadcast journalism, photography, cartooning, public affairs, public relations and publishing.

They include:

• Ana Cantu, former opinion editor and social media manager with the

Austin American-Statesman

• Jo Clifton, editor of In Fact Daily

• Kiah Collier, reporter with the Houston Chronicle

• Danny Davis, sports reporter for the Austin American-Statesman

• Howard Decker, manager of news systems and neighborhood news at

the Houston Chronicle

• Wes Ferguson, author of forthcoming book Running The River (Texas A&M University Press, 2014)

• Brandi Grissom, managing editor of the Texas Tribune

• Suzanne Halliburton, sports reporter for the Austin American-Statesman

• Erin Inks, editor of Texas Highways Events Calendar and contributing editor to Texas Highways magazine

• Jeanne Janes, owner of Janes & Associates public relations firm

• Quin Mathews, documentary filmmaker and former TV news anchor

• Thomas Meredith, freelance photographer

• Robert Quigley, UT professor and former social media editor at the Austin American-Statesman

• Christine Rodriguez, communications and development consultant, owner of Christine’s List
