Pulitzer Prize winners, filmmaker, cartoonist, sports writers top list of former Texan staffers honored Nov. 3

Eleven former Daily Texan staffers  – including a well-known filmmaker, a respected Texas state senator, a Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer, a university president, the man who built the Dallas Cowboys franchise, two sportswriters and columnists who covered the early Cowboy years and a Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist – will be honored at the Friends of The Daily Texan Awards Dinner Nov. 3 at the University of Texas-Austin. Friends group honors Texan Hall of Fame inductees

More than 120 supporters of The Daily Texan gathered Sept. 16 at The Texas Union to honor a new group of 9 inductees into The Texan Hall of Fame. One Rising Star winner,  two Griff Singer Award winners and five Hall of Fame winners were inducted. A sixth selection – Sen. Judith  Zaffirini – was unable to attend, and will be inducted at next year’s event. The fourth annual awards event and gathering of Friends of The Daily Texan has been scheduled for Friday, Sept. 16. Friends of The Daily Texan is pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the 2016 Friends of The Daily Texan Awards. These awards recognize Daily Texan alumni and supporters who have led distinguished careers, as well as other individuals who have demonstrated support for The Texan. Bernhardt named Dean of Moody College of Communication

Jay Bernhardt has been appointed dean of the Moody College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin. He has served as interim dean of the college since Sept. 1, 2015. The appointment became effective March 1. “Jay has an ambitious vision for the future of Moody and in the last six months has demonstrated himself to be a champion for excellence in the college,” said UT Austin President Gregory L. Singer, Sargent inducted into Texas Newspaper Hall of Fame

SAN MARCOS — Former Daily Texan cartoonist  Ben Sargent and retired journalism professor Griff Singer were inducted into the Texas Newspaper Foundation Hall of Fame during the recent Texas Press 2016 Midwinter Conference and Trade Show.  They joined Gail Borden and Caro Brown as 2016 inductees. UT’s Sargent, Singer named to Texas Newspaper Hall of Fame

AUSTIN — Texas Newspaper Foundation proudly announces the selection of four exemplary individuals — Gail Borden, Caro Brown, Ben Sargent and Griff Singer — to be inducted into the Texas Newspaper Foundation Hall of Fame for the year 2016.
